Phyrex

The magical channeling properties of the crystals that make up Phyrexes have been known for centuries. Often utilised in Focuses and other magical tools, the crystals are an easy point to focus a spell onto, before channeling it to the final target. It was only recently that Phyros Rex, a cunning Halfling etrepeneur managed to get his hands on a method to cut the crystals in a way that makes them hold magical energy instead of leaking it, only to release the energy as a controlled stream when cracked, becoming a worthless stone afterwards. Figuring out that he had aquired something valuable he bought a mine full of the crystals near Dahlborg and released the technique to the world, coining the resulting product Phyrex, creating demand and free advertisement for the raw crystals that he has a large supply of.

After the technique was released to the public, multiple different applications to the Phyrex-method were found. One of the most notable ones is a new way to smith weapons and shields to include a housing and channeling system from a Phyrex Stone to the rest of the item, giving a welcome edge to a combatant. Ranging from lighting a blade on fire to cause elemental damage to being able to push an enemy away with a push of a button behind a shield.

Phyrex Weapons:

In order for a weapon or shield to be able to use the energy of a Phyrex Stone, it has to be custom made for the purpose. The cost of a Phyrex Weapon or Shield is 100gp more than the base cost of a normal version of the item. For example, a Phyrex Greatsword costs 150gp and a Phyrex Shield costs 110gp. A Phyrex Weapon or Shield can only house one Phyrex Stone, as creating additional slots will cause the item's durability to plummet.

A Phyrex weapon has a slot for a Phyrex Stone in the hilt or guard of the blade behind a protective cage to prevent the accidental cracking of a Phyrex Stone. Opening the cage and cracking the stone causing the stone's effect to activate is a bonus action.

A Phyrex Shield has a slot for a Phyrex Stone behind the shield, within easy reach of the shield-wielding arm to crack. Thus a character can crack the stone as a reaction.

Changing the stone takes one minute as inserting the stone wrongly can cause the channeling system to malfunction and break the Phyrex Weapon.
